People sometimes ask us why we built Voreq in Layyah. The honest answer is that we love it here. It is not a city that shouts for attention — it rewards people who slow down. This guide is how we would spend a weekend with a friend visiting for the first time.
Saturday morning: breakfast and the mandi
Start early. Head to one of the small chai stops around Bail Chowk for strong doodh patti and a fresh paratha straight off the tawa. Mornings are the best time of day in Layyah, especially in the warmer months, and the streets are just waking up.
From there, walk or take a rickshaw to the sabzi mandi. It is loud, colourful and full of seasonal produce from nearby farms. Even if you are not buying, it is one of the best ways to feel the rhythm of the city.

Saturday afternoon: the bazaar
After a rest during the hottest part of the day, wander through the old bazaar. Fabric shops, shoe stalls, spice sellers and sweet shops sit side by side. Bargaining politely is normal, and shopkeepers are usually happy to chat.
“Layyah is not a city that shouts for attention. It rewards people who slow down.”
Saturday evening: towards the Indus
As the sun drops, head west towards the river side of the district. The open skies and cooler air make it the perfect spot for an evening walk. Bring a flask of chai and something to sit on — families often spend the whole evening here.
Sunday: sunrise in the Thal
This is the highlight. Leave before dawn and drive east into the Thal. Watching the first light move across the sand is quiet, cool and genuinely beautiful. Go with someone who knows the area, carry plenty of water and be back in town before the heat sets in.

Sunday lunch: a proper Punjabi meal
End the weekend with a long lunch. Order sajji or biryani to share, with fresh naan, raita and a cold glass of lassi. Then, if you are anything like us, find somewhere shady for a well-earned nap.
